B-BBEE Affidavit

Last updated 2026-08-07

A B-BBEE affidavit is a sworn, self-certified statement small businesses use to declare their B-BBEE status without needing a full verification audit.

A B-BBEE affidavit lets a small or micro business self-declare its annual turnover and black ownership percentage under oath, in place of commissioning a full B-BBEE verification audit.

What it means

It's a simplified compliance route available below a turnover threshold, recognising that a full verification audit is disproportionately costly for a very small business relative to the contracts it competes for.

Where it fits in

Above the turnover threshold that qualifies for an affidavit, a business instead needs a full B-BBEE certificate from an accredited verification agency, a more detailed process based on the full scorecard.

Key rules

  • A sworn, self-certified declaration, not a third-party audit.
  • Available only below the applicable turnover threshold.
  • States annual turnover and black ownership percentage.
  • Replaced by a full B-BBEE certificate once turnover exceeds the threshold.
